Lakeway Orthodontics Runs 5K for The Trail Foundation

For the second year, Lakeway Orthodontics laced up running shoes for Maudie’s Moonlight Margarita 5k Run in aid of The Trail Foundation.

The Trail Foundation serves to protect the Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail at Lady Bird Lake. More than just a pathway, it is a place where people thrive. It spans South Austin, Downtown Austin and East Austin. For citizens and visitors alike, it represents the best Austin has to offer: outdoor recreation; a scenic, natural environment; and a diverse, vibrant mix of people.

In the 1960s, flooding was common along the banks of Austin’s Colorado River, washing away trees and shrubs. In the 1970s, the Trail grew out of a sense of community spirit and responsibility to maintain and enhance the 10-mile pathway for future generations.

This charity event is close to the heart of the Lakeway Orthodontics team, whose office is in Lakeway, allowing them to enjoy the beauty of Lake Travis. It speaks to an appreciation of Hill Country, being out in nature, and enjoying natural beauty. Plus, it’s a healthy way to support a good cause!

On race day, an 8:00 PM shotgun start got everyone going on the 5K course that traveled along the streets bordering Lady Bird Lake. The Lakeway Ortho team was Tiesha, Monica, Meagan, Dr. Jeff Dykes, and his girlfriend Lauren.

It was a fast, out-and-back route that started at the Johnson Creek Trailhead underneath MoPac, next to the giant piece of granite runners affectionately call ‘The Rock’. The team crossed the finish line in front of the American Legion Hall on Veterans Drive, and then joined the party. Maudie’s served a delicious Tex-Mex dinner and margaritas while runners listened to live music.

A great event, for a great cause! Learn more about the run, or join it next year.

The Trail Foundation protects and enhances the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail at Lady Bird Lake. Lakeway Orthodontics believes in supporting our community, where we live. An active supporter of the community in Austin, Lakeway Orthodontics is located in Lakeway, in the Texas Hill Country near Lake Travis Waterfront, 25 miles northwest of Downtown Austin. The orthodontic practice serves the local community in Lakeway, Lake Travis, Steiner Ranch, Bee Cave, Spicewood, Four Points, Westlake, and West Austin.
