Ultimate Guide to Invisalign® Excerpt by Dr Jeff Dykes

Lakeway Orthodontics Jan 20, 2016

Recently, Dr Jeff Dykes completed “The Ultimate Guide to Invisalign®,” a guide that shares with patients, parents and teens, and adults, all about the pros and cons of Invisalign® treatment.

Some of the questions that are covered are:

  • Invisalign® vs braces – How do I know which is the right choice for me?
  • How does an orthodontist determine which option will help me best?
  • What does an orthodontist look for first in assessing a patient?
  • How well does Invisalign® work for adult and teens?
  • Cost of Invisalign® vs Braces
  • plus many more!
  • Below is an excerpt from the “Ultimate Guide to Invisalign®,” where Dr Dykes answers “What are the pros and cons of Invisalign® vs traditional braces?”

Invisalign® is usually quicker, more esthetic, uses more gentle forces, has less “emergency” visits, fewer visits required during treatment overall and can offer more control of the teeth, for the Orthodontist, during treatment to allow only specific movements at any one time.

Braces with wires can be uncomfortable on the cheeks initially and can be knocked off if eating something hard. In addition, the braces require more oral hygiene efforts to keep everything free of plaque and more adjustment visits.

However, braces can be more efficient at fixing large vertical discrepancies and during large amounts of space closure, which include movement of the roots of the teeth.

Invisalign® can move the roots of teeth but the treatment is actually faster with braces in this one case.
